Steps Ahead for Youth Mentors

Mentors are one of the most critical components to the Colorado Youth at Risk Steps Ahead program. Mentors provide ongoing guidance and support for youth as they work one to one on personal growth through the year long program. Mentors meet with youth 8 hours a month and attend scheduled community workshops.  CYAR provides excellent training for mentors initially and throughout the year.  Interested mentors will be provided a calendar of events for the entire year.

Steps Ahead for Youth Community Mentors

Community Mentors attend all the community meetings.  At community meetings the community mentor participates as the mentor for those youth who are without their permanent mentor that day.  This might involve transporting the youth to and from the community workshop.  A Community mentor also might be asked to call or meet with the youth one-to-one when the permanent mentor has a planned absence like a vacation.  Community mentors participate in the same training as one-to-one mentors.

Touchstone Coaches

Coaches in the Touchstone program provide on-going coaching for youth who have completed the Steps Ahead for Youth program.  Sophomores through Seniors meet once a month in a meeting that includes one-to-one coaching time.  Touchstone coaches attend a monthly meeting, and they have one other coaching session with the youth once a month.  As a Coach you will work with one to three students in being successful in school, applying for colleges and creating a plan for graduation.

Event Management

The role of the event management team is critical to the success of the program.  Behind the scenes, volunteers create an environment and a space for amazing things to happen, often making transitions from one activity to the next flow seamlessly.  Activities include set up of the room and preparation of special supplies or activities.  Event Management volunteers are needed for every community workshop, training, special event and the launch course.  As an event management volunteer you decide how much or how little you would like to volunteer.

Recruitment Team

This team will be contacting community centers, social clubs, leads groups, corporations, churches, fraternity alumni groups, etc. to communicate our mission and volunteer opportunities.  This team conducts our ‘Creating Promise’ Tours.  Activities might include public speaking, writing, hanging posters/flyers, participating at community festivals.

Fundraising and Cultivation Team

This team works with the Development Director helping with our major fundraising activities; a Silent Auction, The Drew Goodman Golf Classic & our Partners for a Bold Future Breakfast, to name a few. They may also be involved in developing corporate partnerships, writing and public speaking.

Administrative Team

These volunteers spend time helping in the Colorado Youth at Risk office.  Activities include bulk mailings, database management, putting packets together and phone services.  Often these tasks can be done at your own home.
